Donor Egg IVF FAQs
Since 1988, GIVF has offered one of the most extensive and most comprehensive Donor Egg IVF programs in the country. We have one of the largest, most diverse pools of immediately available egg donors in the United States, and our program has excellent success rates. Regardless of whether you choose fresh or frozen donor eggs, you can begin treatment when it’s convenient for you. And you can depend on personalized, compassionate care and attention from your physician and donor egg coordinator.
Our expertise in genetics provides donor egg IVF patients with benefits not available at many fertility centers. Every egg donor is screened in-house by our board-certified geneticist, and donor egg recipients can always meet with one of our board-certified genetic counselors. GIVF counselors will review the patient’s family history, the biological father’s family history, the egg donor’s history, and answer any questions the patient may have about heredity and genetic conditions.
In general, any patient with a medical or genetic indication for using an egg donor can be a recipient if there are no medical contraindications to pregnancy. We accept donor egg recipients up to the age of 55. The decision to use donor eggs is made in association with the patient and their infertility specialist.
If male factor infertility is an issue, donor egg IVF with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) into the eggs is also available. Non-surgical sperm aspiration (NSA) can be used in association with ICSI if a patient has had a vasectomy and wishes to avoid vasectomy reversal, or there are other causes of the absence of sperm in the ejaculate. If donor sperm is needed, many highly-screened sperm donors are available from our in-house sperm bank, Fairfax Cryobank.
Donor egg IVF opens a world of possibilities for patients who have struggled to conceive. It allows many patients who could not become pregnant with their own eggs to become pregnant easily, whether they use fresh or frozen donor eggs. We are committed to providing a large, diverse selection of fully screened, talented, educated donors, between the ages of 19 and 33.
The information available on our egg donors includes physical characteristics (height, weight, hair color and type, body build, and blood type), ethnic background, educational record, occupation, special interests, audio interviews, childhood photos, and adult photos. The choice of an egg donor is always made by the patient. You can view our fresh cycle egg donors or search the through the Fairfax EggBank frozen donor egg database.
We do not require that donor egg recipients join a waiting list. Donor egg IVF cycles can match one donor to one recipient (sole match) or one donor to two recipients (shared match). Regardless of whether a patient chooses a sole or shared match, treatment can begin immediately and will not be required to wait for a donor.
We also have an extensive pool of fully screened, immediately available egg donors, and we offer frozen donor eggs from our in-house egg bank, Fairfax EggBank. If you choose an egg donor who is in high demand, there is a chance you may have to wait for the donor to become available. However, it is our goal to provide our patients with as many options as possible so they will not have to wait unnecessarily to begin treatment.
